Willibald Berenda

Willibald Berenda (born June 28, 1955 in Vienna ) is an Austrian civil servant and was head of the office for defusing and demining at the Federal Criminal Police Office from 1993 to 2013 . From June 1, 2013 to June 30, 2017, he was a technical expert for international defusing service matters at EKO COBRA / Directorate for Special Forces in the General Directorate for Public Security in Austria. After retiring, he has been a volunteer lay worker at the Austrian police chaplaincy since July 1, 2017.

Life

Berenda passed the Matura in 1974 in the higher federal teaching and research institute for the chemical industry, specializing in biochemistry, in Vienna and then completed the military service in the armed forces. Subsequently, Berenda joined the federal service as a chemist in the Central Forensic Office of the Federal Ministry of the Interior of the Republic of Austria. In 1988, after completing the advancement course and passing the service examination at the Federal Administration Academy , he moved to the Federal Ministry of the Interior's asylum authority as a legally qualified civil servant and in 1990 to Federal Minister Franz Löschnak .

In 1993 Berenda became known as the head of the defusing service in connection with the letter bomb series in Austria, in which Franz Fuchs was arrested as the perpetrator after dozens of bomb attacks . At that time, the defusing service was involved in the defense against explosives as well as in the crime scene and trace analysis. From 2004 to 2013 Berenda was also a commissioner for explosives matters at the ICAO in Montreal, Canada in the IETC. IETC is the "International Explosives Technical Commission", which was created as an advisory body for the ICAO in connection with the "Convention on the Marking of Plastic Explosives for the Purpose of Detection". On November 16, 2009, Berenda was elected chairman of the EEODN (European Explosive Ordnance Disposal Network) for two years by representatives of the 27 member states of Europol in The Hague, Netherlands, and was re-elected for two years on October 25, 2011 in Warsaw, Poland.

Willibald Berenda completed courses and seminars at the German Federal Criminal Police Office in Wiesbaden , at the FBI Academy in Quantico with the Spanish Disarming Service and at New Scotland Yard in London as a crime scene manager after explosives. In 2010 Berenda completed the Post Blast Investigation Training at the ATF - Bureau_of_Alcohol, _Tobacco, _Firearms_and_Explosives .

He is married and has two children.
