The Willibrord Chapel is a listed ( list entry ) sacred building of the Old Catholic Church of Austria in the Lower Austrian town of Krems an der Donau .

history

The Willibrord Chapel is dated to 1671. From 1562 until it was abandoned in 1903, it was surrounded by a cemetery , which it served as a chapel . The sacred building is simple and has a gable roof and a ridge turret . The western side has brick buttresses and lunette windows . The medallion of St. Willibrord is above the gable . This saint is considered to be the first Archbishop of Utrecht .

The construction of the roof ridge is characterized by an octagonal attachment over a square base, the arched sound windows and a pyramid helmet . The hall is vaulted by a needle cap barrel. The building is located near Steiner Tor on Arbeitergasse. The chapel of the Old Catholic Church has served as a place of worship since 1947.

Old Catholic parish Krems-St.Pölten

A branch of the Old Catholic Parish Office of Sankt Salvator (Vienna) had existed since 1926. The first Old Catholic service in Krems was held in 1929 in the Evangelical Church of the Savior . In September 1941, the priest uplift occurred to Old Catholic parish Krems-St. Pölten. In 1947 the Willibrord Chapel near the Steinertor was consecrated by Bishop Stefan Török . The chapel was bought by the parish in 1965. In 1999, the Willibrord bell was blessed on the occasion of the celebration of “70 years of Old Catholic worship in Krems”. In 2001 and 2002 a renovation took place.

The parish of Krems-St. Pölten of the Old Catholic Church of Austria holds its services in the Willibrord Chapel in Krems, in the Bürgerspitalkirche of St. Pölten and in the Protestant churches of Amstetten , Purkersdorf and Waidhofen an der Thaya .
