Willibrord Haas

Willibrord Haas (born February 9, 1936 in Schramberg ) is a German painter , draftsman and graphic artist .

Life

Willibrord Haas was born into a family of musicians and moved to Wangen in 1948 . From 1954 he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich. His teachers were Hermann Kaspar , Richard Seewald , Charles Crodel , Georg Schmidt. In addition, he attended courses at the Ludwig Maximilians University with Hans Sedlmayr and Romano Guardini . In 1960 he completed his studies as a master class student. From the following year he worked in Berlin . His first exhibition took place in Biberach in 1966 . A little later he made the acquaintance of Joseph Beuys , from whose understanding of art he was inspired. From 1975 he was a lecturer in etching at the International Summer Academy in Salzburg and regularly holds events at various institutions.

Haas was married to Helga Wirth from 1972 until her death in 2014. The couple had two sons.

Willibrord Haas is one of the last surviving artists of " post-war abstraction ".

Topics of his aquatint works and in blasting techniques over 3 to 4 plates often tie in with fairy tales and symbols, with the landscape and the cosmic.
