William Carruthers "Willie" Cunningham (born February 22, 1925 in Cowdenbeath , † November 15, 2000 in Preston ) was a Scottish football player and coach.

career

Cunningham began his career with Dunfermline Athletic in his Scottish homeland. In 1946 he moved to Airdrieonians FC , where he played for three years. He then moved to England to Preston North End in the First Division . By 1963 he played over 500 competitive games for the club. He was also used during his stay in England in the Scottish national team, with which he took part in the 1954 World Cup. Between 1963 and 1965 he was a player-coach at Southport FC before returning to Preston North End as a junior coach.
