Coordinates: 33 ° 48 ′  S , 151 ° 11 ′  E Willoughby City is a local government area (LGA) in the Australian state of New South Wales . Willoughby is part of the metropolis of Sydney , the capital of New South Wales. The area is 23 km² and has about 74,000 inhabitants.

Willoughby is located north of Inner Sydney west of Middle Harbor about 5 to 10 km north of the city center. The area includes 25 neighborhoods: Castle Cove, Castlecrag, Chatswood, East Willoughby, Flat Rock, Frenchs Road, Headland Heights, Middle Cove, Mowbray, Northbridge, Royal North Shore Hospital, Sailors Bay, Willoughby, Willoughby North and parts of Artarmon, Chatswood West, Crows Nest, Gore Hill, Lane Cove, Naremburn, North Lane Cove, Roseville, East Roseville, St Leonards and Wollstonecraft. The council's headquarters are in the Chatswood neighborhood in the center of the LGA.

Together with Lane Cove Municipality and North Sydney Council , it is combined to form the northern center of St Leonard 's metropolis.

Willoughby City has 13 members who are elected by LGA residents. Three members each come from Middle Harbor, Naremburn, Sailors Bay and West Ward, the chairman and mayor is also elected by all residents of the LGA. The four districts are defined independently of the districts.
