Willy Czernik

Willy Czernik (born January 24, 1901 in Dresden ; † January 6, 1996 in Lämmerspiel , today a district of Mühlheim am Main ) was a German conductor and composer of operettas and film music . A well-known work by him is the theme music for the television series “ Die Firma Hesselbach ”, the Hesselbachpolka .

Czernik completed organ and piano studies in Dresden and Leipzig. He then studied conducting and composition at the Dresden Conservatory . From 1926 to 1930 Czernik was Kapellmeister under Clemens Krauss at the Frankfurt Opera House , from 1930 to 1932 first Kapellmeister, from 1932 to 1934 musical head director at the Braunschweig State Theater . Simultaneously with this he filled the position of a conductor of the teachers choir. From 1935 to autumn 1944, Czernik was the first conductor of the Dresden State Opera . From 1946 to 1947 he helped set up the Bamberg Symphony . From 1948 to 1953 he directed the symphony concerts in Gießen . In Wiesbaden , Czernik was city music director and conductor of the symphony orchestra from 1956 to 1959. Czernik has worked as a freelance composer and guest conductor for well-known orchestras since 1960. His best-known composition is the Tarantella Chi sa (sung by Rita Streich and Renate Holm, among others). His violin concerto was recorded by Wolfgang Marschner with the Kölner Rundfunk-Sinfonie-Orchester under Franz Marszalek from WDR Cologne.
