Willy Dähnhardt

Willy Dähnhardt , (* December 15, 1939 - October 18, 2010 ), was a Danish graduate librarian at the Royal Library in Copenhagen , reading room chief, translator and impresario.

Life

Dähnhardt studied at the Free University in Berlin (1964–65) and at the Munich University (1975–76). He worked as a senior researcher at the Royal Library in Copenhagen and was a qualified librarian and subject librarian at the Department of Germanic Philology and English, also at the Royal Library.

He translated operas as well as specialist literature and fiction . The text Masquerade by Carl Nielsen is one of his numerous translations of libretti . Since 2008 Dähnhardt was the main person behind a series of monthly in Reading Room West held causeries : I dialog med forfatteren (In dialogue with the author), which are held by researchers of the research reading room. The music was very close to him, in 2010 he became an honorary member of the Danish Sangselskab .

Together with the editor Birgit S. Nielsen, Dähnhardt wrote the book Exil in Denmark and thus made a significant contribution to understanding the horror and consequences of National Socialism for a number of cultural personalities who have shaped Danish cultural history and identity.
