The Wilster ( Low German : Welster / Wilster ) is a left-hand (western) tributary of the Medem in northern Lower Saxony.

The approximately nine kilometers long river belongs to the river system of the Elbe and is of shallow depth. It has its source in Westerende , flows through the town in an easterly direction and - after it has recorded numerous weather reports - flows into the Medem at Kathusen . This in turn joins the Elbe-Weser shipping route at Otterndorf in the Lower Elbe after a further 17 kilometers .
