The Franz Wiltmann GmbH & Co. KG manufactures and markets since 1887 at the company headquarters in the Westphalian Versmold - Peckeloh sausage and ham. The family business mainly markets salami in Germany and Europe. Wiltmann also manufactures pies, aspic, cooked and scalded sausage products as well as snack products. With around 800 employees, Wiltmann processes up to 160 tons of meat every day . The production area in Peckeloh covers more than 100,000 m².

history

In 1297, the Wiltmann family in what is now Peckeloh was first mentioned in a sales document from the Bishop of Osnabrück, when the farm was transferred to the Marienfeld Monastery. In October 1887, Franz Wiltmann founded the industrial company Wiltmann with "the processing and shipping of meat products according to industrial and commercial aspects". In 1905, Wiltmann received the "Royal Prussian State Medal" in the first German ham competition.

In the run-up to the 100th anniversary in 1987, Wiltmann began working with the artist Otmar Alt . This shaped the product packaging and the exhibition stand as well as the company restaurant, the facades of the company building and the interior of the Wiltmann Forum, furnished with sculptures.

In 2014 the Federal Cartel Office imposed fines on 21 sausage manufacturers in Germany for illegal price fixing; including Wiltmann. The company rejected the allegation and appealed against the fine. However, this was not successful. Wiltmann agreed with the Düsseldorf Higher Regional Court after the illegal price agreement and was therefore sentenced to a fine of 6.5 million euros. The company appealed against the judgment appeal at the Federal Court a.

Transparent production

Wiltmann set up a "transparent production". With this facility, opened in 1989 by the North Rhine-Westphalian Prime Minister Johannes Rau , the company makes almost its entire production process accessible to visitors. A glass gallery gives visitors an insight into the production processes. Only the maturing floors for drying and preserving the long-life sausages are not allowed to be viewed directly by visitors for structural and hygienic reasons. In 2006 the glass production had more than half a million visitors.

Social and social engagement

In 2012, the Bertelsmann Stiftung awarded Wiltmann the seal of quality “family-friendly employer”.

In 2017 the district of Gütersloh and the Gütersloh Foundation for the mentally ill and mentally handicapped awarded Wiltmann the “Social Oscar”. The award recognizes the company's commitment to integrating mentally ill and handicapped people into professional life.

In cooperation with the “Vital” magazine, the company has been holding a literary writing competition on sausage topics since 2013.

Members of the Wiltmann management team have held positions in associations and public functions at the same time for years; currently on the Presidium of the Federal Association of the Meat Industry and on the Board of the Federal Association of the German Food Industry .
