Wilwolt von Schaumberg (* around 1446 probably on the Lauterburg near Rödental -Oberwohlsbach; † April 20, 1510 at Schaumberg Castle near Schalkau ) was a Franconian nobleman from the branching family of the von Schaumberg , mercenary leader and general.

In 1475 Wilwolt campaigned in the service of Charles the Bold . Wilwolt's father died in 1475. In the 1480s he was in military service in the Mark Brandenburg and on trips with the Count von Henneberg to Rome. The Counts of Henneberg enfeoffed him with the city of Ilmenau (between 1476 and 1498).

In 1484 he appeared at the tournament in Stuttgart and in 1487 he entered the service of Duke Albrechts the Brave of Saxony. The emperor engaged the duke against the Hungarian king Matthias Corvinus , who had occupied large parts of Austria. Wilwolt worked here as a captain.

In 1495 he took part in a tournament at the Reichstag in Worms . Wilwolt later subjugated Friesland for his employer, the Duke of Saxony.

After years of service as a mercenary, Wilwolt retired around 1500, and from 1501–1503 had his ancestral castle expanded into a miniature state-of-the-art cannon fortress based on the knowledge he had acquired over 25 years of military service.

His life was recorded between 1510 and 1512 by Ludwig von Eyb the Younger (1450–1521).
