The windmill in Groß Mimmelage

The windmill in Groß Mimmelage in the municipality of Badbergen - called Everdings Mühle since 2006 - is a tower or octagonal windmill , also called Galerieholländer , which dates from the late 18th century.

Type

With Dutch windmills , not the entire mill body rotates, as is the case with the post mill , but only the hood. In the past, it had to be turned by hand in the wind direction from the gallery, today the compass rose with its eight wind boards takes on this task. It is attached at right angles to the wing position and absorbs the fluctuations in the wind direction.

history

The mill was built in 1785 on Gut Aselage in the Emsland as a Erdholländer . Around 1800 it was moved to Hahlen near Menslage , where it can be identified as Burmöhlen (farmer's mill). In 1877 it was sold to a farming cooperative in Groß Mimmelage. The sandstone substructure was rebuilt, while the other parts, especially the wooden engine, were taken over.

In 1953 the last grain was ground in the mill, which was then left to decay for decades. On November 13, 1972, the windmill was largely destroyed by the Quimburga hurricane . The cap and blades fell off and damaged the mill body. Since it was the only still operational windmill in the Osnabrück district at the time, the reconstruction was carried out by the Bersenbrück district home association.

In 1991 the restoration of the mill building was completed, in 2003 the current owners took over the property, which houses a historic sawmill next to the mill. In 2005 the Mühlencafé Oma Plüsch was opened. In 2006 the mill received new blades and a new compass rose. The mill technology was overhauled and the bag elevator was renewed. Since the new owner completed his training as a miller for historical windmills, the mill has been named after old miller tradition and is called Everdings Mühle . In 2007 his son Sebastian Everding also completed his training as a historic miller at the Lower Saxony Mill Association.

Todays use

View into the rosarium

In addition to the mill café and a small sales stand, where the original mill bread and other Artländer products as well as various travel guides and information can be purchased, the property houses a historic sawmill and a mill cinema in the style of the 1960s. Since 2007, civil weddings have been held in the so-called Müllerstube in the back of the mill. A rosarium , the “garden of all senses”, has been part of the mill area since 2014 . The garden directly behind the mill is open to the public several days a year.

Awards

In September 2007, the mill was voted the most beautiful sight in the Artland community in a competition organized by the Bersenbrück eV district home association.

In March 2009, the ETM-Testmagazin magazine discussed the mill in an article about “Getting married in extraordinary places”.

Current

Every year on Whit Monday is German Mill Day , and the mill in Groß-Mimmelage regularly takes part.
