The Himmelberg wind farm is located on the 820 m high Himmelberg near Melchingen , a district of Burladingen in the Zollernalb district in Baden-Württemberg .
The wind conditions at the location on the Swabian Alb are on average around 5.6 m / s at the hub height of the systems.
The wind farm consists of three wind turbines from the Danish manufacturer NEG Micon, which was taken over by Vestas in 2004. The Micon M1500-600 wind turbines are named Eos , Aiolos , and Helios . With a hub height of 46 m, a rotor diameter of 43 m, and a nominal output of 600 kW each , these systems are now among the least powerful systems. A replacement by modern, more powerful systems ( repowering ) is not planned and also not possible at the local location. The plants are to be dismantled without replacement at the end of their approx. 30-year service life (approx. 2025).
When it was commissioned in 1995, the wind farm was the first in Baden-Württemberg, although at that time there were already several individual plants in the state. The construction of the project, which cost 3.4 million DM at the time, was financially supported by the state of Baden-Württemberg. The Federal Ministry for Education, Science, Research and Technology also supported the wind farm as part of the 250 MW wind program at the time. The systems supply around 800 households with electricity from wind power.
