The wind turbine in 1996

The wind turbine Libbenichen is a 1926 on the Birkenhof in Brandenburg Libbenichen built wind turbine . It was the only system of its kind built by Anton M. Mandt, which went bankrupt shortly afterwards . It was used to generate electricity for the farm, which at that time was not connected to the public electricity network. It consists of a 22 meter high freestanding steel lattice tower and has a rotor diameter of 15.6 meters. A drive shaft runs inside the mast, and a generator and a mill are driven. In contrast to modern wind turbines, the system has six rotor blades . The wind turbine was shut down in 1948 and was then left to decay. In 1990 it was placed under a preservation order. Experts from the German Museum of Technology in Berlin , the University of Applied Sciences for Technology and Economics in Berlin and the Berlin-Brandenburg Mill Association tried to preserve the wind turbine. It has been renovated since 2002 . The cost of maintaining it is estimated at EUR 400,000 to 500,000.
