history

On July 13, 1891, a contract was signed between Clark and Plumb and Mr. FT Ledergerber, which provided for settlement by German Catholics on an area of 75,000 acres . Clark and Plumb also pledged to provide the money to build a church, a rectory, and a school. Two priests subsequently examined this property and erected a first wooden cross on it on July 26, 1891, on which they affixed the name of the new settlement, Windthorst : Windhorst has since been named after the adversary Otto von Bismarck , Ludwig Windthorst . Friday, January 1st, 1892 is given as the official founding date of the Catholic community. That day, the congregation, consisting of three bachelors and one family, gathered at the site for the very first mass .
