Winfried Elliger

Winfried Elliger (born February 3, 1930 ; † February 14, 2019 in Tübingen ) was a German classical philologist with a focus on Greek studies .

Career

Elliger studied classical philology and German at the Eberhard Karls University of Tübingen , the Georg-August University of Göttingen and the Ludwig Maximilians University of Munich . In 1955 he received his doctorate with Wolfgang Schadewaldt in Tübingen with a dissertation entitled "Parable and Comparison in Homer and the Greek Tragedians". Following the state examination , he worked in school and taught at the University of Münster at the same time . From 1961 he was responsible for Greek language courses at the Protestant Theology department in Tübingen. There he was an academic senior counselor .

In 1962 Elliger married the author Katharina Elliger , with whom he had two children.
