The DJK Winfriedia Mülheim was a sports club from Cologne-Mülheim . The first soccer team of this club played one year in the Oberliga Nordrhein .

history

The club was founded in 1923 and belonged to the Catholic sports association Deutsche Jugendkraft . After the National Socialists came to power , the association was dissolved in 1935 and re-established after the Second World War. For decades, the team only played at the local level before the sporting upswing began in the early 1990s. In 1992 he was promoted to the regional league . At the same time, the arcade owner Theo Seuffert, who had previously led SC Brück to the top, began his financial commitment to the club. The Mülheimers immediately secured the championship and were promoted to the Mittelrhein Association League . There the team came third behind TuS 08 Langerwehe and SC Jülich in 1910 and made it to the Oberliga Nordrhein.

With the rise, the association got into internal turbulence. Patron Seuffert cut his donations and coach Toni Ley left the club together with numerous top performers. As penultimate Winfriedia 1994/95 rose from the league again. After the descent, Seuffert withdrew. After three relegations in a row, the club arrived in the district league A in 2000. Between 2001 and 2004 the team returned to the district league before the club had to file for bankruptcy in 2009 and was dissolved.

Danny da Costa , who works for Eintracht Frankfurt in the Bundesliga , played for Winfriedia Mülheim until 2001.
