Wish is the ninth studio album by the English band The Cure . It was released on Fiction Records in April 1992.

history

Wish appeared in 1992 as the follow-up to the 1989 album Disintegration . The basic mood of the album is more optimistic than that of the melancholy predecessor, which is why Wish is considered more compatible with broad mass tastes.

Consequently, Wish is still the album with which the group The Cure achieved the world's greatest chart success. It debuted at number 1 in the UK and number 2 on the US Billboard 200 , where it sold more than 1.2 million copies. In Germany the album reached number 6 and stayed in the charts for 29 weeks from May 4 to November 22, 1992.

The second single, Friday I'm in Love , became one of The Cure's best-known songs. It reached number 6 in the UK charts , number 17 in the US charts and number 1 in South Africa.

Wish was nominated for the 1993 Grammy Award for Best Alternative Music Album.

As a guest musician, Kate Wilkinson plays the viola on To Wish Impossible Things .

criticism

On the Allmusic website the album got 2.5 out of 5 stars. The album contains "a handful of jewels (High, A Letter to Elise, Wendy Time, Friday I'm in Love) that make the record valuable."

The Rolling Stone gave Wish 4 out of 5 stars and called it an "outstanding album".
