The Wixhäuser Dorfmuseum is a museum in Darmstadt-Wixhausen .

Architecture and history

The Wixhäuser Village Museum is located in a fully restored Franconian half-timbered house , which to a Sattelhof the Middle Ages back. After the destruction of the Thirty Years War , the building was rebuilt in 1662 using the ornamental framework from another house.

The gable , two-storey half - timbered house - with a solid ground floor - has a beaver-tail-covered hipped roof . The baroque framework adorns fine decorative shapes on the long sides, such as curved St. Andrew's crosses and diamonds , parapet panels with diamonds and curved, nested struts ( Rhenish noses ). At the front of the building, the framework is clad with wooden shingles.

The museum has nine rooms available. They are furnished with exhibits on the cultural and social history of the old village; they vividly document the previous living conditions in Wixhausen. The village museum is integrated into the historic rectory , which has grown over eight and a half centuries and dates back to a knight seat from the Middle Ages. Its buildings complement the museum as well as the parish archive, which has been preserved since 1556.

In addition to special exhibitions, guided tours and museum education for children are possible by arrangement.

Exhibits

The museum's permanent collection consists mainly of exhibits from the 18th and 19th centuries.

In addition to a saddler's, a shoemaker's and a Wagner workshop, a smoking kitchen and a home oven, farm equipment, after-work bricks , household items, toys, laundry, maps, construction plans and a collection of old photographs are on display.
