Life

Vyacheslav Ivanovich Sawossin was the brother of Oleg Ivanovich Sawossin, a character actor in Soviet cinema. He lived in Moscow on Tverskoy Boulevard.

In 1960 he graduated from the Faculty of Art and Graphics at the Moscow State Pedagogical University and then worked in the Graphic Arts Combine of the Moscow Artists Association. From 1964 he was a member of the Moscow Department of the Soviet Artists Union.

His artistic career began in the 1960s, during the heyday of linocut. Characteristic features of his engravings were simplicity, monumentality and the search for a contemporary graphic expression. During this time he created a series of portraits: Hemingway , Blok , Mayakowski , Bagrizki and others, which were recognized not only by colleagues but also by the general public. The portraits of Mayakovsky (1963) and Bagritsky (1963) were recognized as the best works of the year by the Moscow Department of the Soviet Union of Artists.

Sawossin made three- to four-color linocut portraits a common artistic practice. His portraits of Aivazovsky , Gogol , Esenin , Akhmatova , Surikov , Levitan and Dostoyevsky, executed in this technique, became particularly well known .

At the same time, Sawossin dealt with painting; however, his paintings were first exhibited in 1987. According to the Moscow artist and writer Nikita Ivanov, he was "from that point onwards a recognized master of painting with a thoroughly varied and brilliant graphic past".

Zavossin belonged to the "Schestidesjatniki" group. The atmosphere, the circle of the intelligentsia (among Zavossin's friends included Levon Kocheryan, Vladimir Vysotsky , Vladimir Akimov, Mikhail Tumanishvili , Vsevolod Abdulov and other representatives of Moscow's artistic elite) influenced his artistic work. "... Moscow could be seen in the paintings: sometimes happy, with balloons, sometimes rainy, but never gloomy, but freshly washed, reflected on the wet sidewalks, with a light, ironic line - a beer keg with the inevitable sales line." W. Akimow. From the book "Vyacheslav Zavossin. Painting, graphics." Moscow, 2006)

Sawossin is the author of the volume of poetry "Poetic Reflections of an Artist", Moscow, 2003.

After his death on October 2, 2014, he was buried in the Wostryakovo cemetery in Moscow.
