Wladimir d'Ormesson (born August 2, 1888 in Saint Petersburg , † September 15, 1973 in Ormesson-sur-Marne ) was a French writer, journalist and diplomat.

Live and act

He wrote for the daily Le Figaro and published numerous essays and novels. He came from a diplomatic family and was successively the French ambassador to the Holy See , in Buenos Aires and in Santiago de Chile . D'Ormesson was accepted into the Académie française in 1956 .

In the interwar period, Vladimir d'Ormesson was committed to promoting a reconciliation between France and Germany. In retrospect, however, D'Ormesson assessed his Franco-German attempts at mediation extremely critically. During the German occupation of France in World War II, the books were added to the Otto list and were therefore banned.

His nephew Jean d'Ormesson is also a noted French author.
