Ormesson-sur-Marne is a French commune with 10,305 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Val-de-Marne in the region Ile-de-France It belongs to the canton of Saint-Maur-des-Fosses-2 in Arrondissement Créteil .
geography
The municipality is located 13 kilometers southeast of Paris . Neighboring municipalities of Ormesson-sur-Marne are Chennevières-sur-Marne in the north, La Queue-en-Brie in the east, Noiseau and Sucy-en-Brie in the south and in the north-west, on the other side of the Marne , the city of Saint-Maur -des-Fossés . The Morbras flows through the district and flows into the Marne.
history
The place was called Amboile until the 18th century. The name was first mentioned in the 12th century. In 1632 André Le Fèvre d'Ormesson became the landlord and from 1758 the place was called Ormesson. The Prussians partially destroyed Ormesson during the Franco-Prussian War in 1870. Since 1927 the municipality has been called Ormesson-sur-Marne. In 1968 it became part of the newly formed Val-de-Marne department, after having been part of the Seine-et-Oise department since 1790 . In 1984 it became the capital of the canton of Ormesson-sur-Marne.

Guy Le Doeff has been Mayor of Ormesson-sur-Marne since 1998 . Before that, Olivier Lefevre d'Ormesson had held office for 51 years from 1947.

The blazon of the coat of arms reads: Three natural lilies in blue . The coat of arms of the d'Ormesson family was adopted by the municipality in 1957.

Culture and sights
The Ormesson Castle was built in 1580 and expanded several times. It has been a monument historique since 1893 . The Notre-Dame Catholic Church dates from 1764.
The cultural center is located in a two-hectare park. The municipal park on Morbras is 3.5 hectares in size. There is also a sports field, two sports halls and a golf course in Ormesson-sur-Marne.

The departmental roads 33 and 185 lead through the village. In the north-east runs the national road 4 (Paris - Strasbourg ). The nearest train station is in Sucy-en-Brie.
education
Ormesson-sur-Marne has a media library , three pre-schools , three primary schools and the Collège Saint-Exupéry. There is a high school in neighboring Chennevières-sur-Marne.
