Where I Am Is Above is a German short documentary film by Bettina Schoeller .
action
The film portrays a grandmother on her way from the bedroom at home to sunny Gran Canaria. On the way with her daughter and granddaughter and filmmaker, the sprightly woman fights her way through a vacation and fruit paradise. The film shows different sides of her personality; Joie de vivre, age wisdom and farmer's slyness are paired with the upbringing standards typical of this generation of the 1910s and 1920s. An authoritarian Protestant upbringing like in the film The White Ribbon determines not only the life of the grandmother, but also that of her daughter and also influences the granddaughter. An irrepressible will to live breaks through, but it also has another side: just don't show any weakness, never give up, because: where I am is up .
Reviews
" Where I am is upstairs" gives an insight into the life of a self-centered old woman. [...] Or, as the old lady, the grandmother of the director Bettina Schöller, puts it in “Where I am is upstairs”: In the end everyone is alone." (Maris Hubschmid)
