from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Bamberg Short Film Festival is a week-long short film festival that has been held every January since 1991 in Bamberg , Upper Franconia . As the oldest short film festival in Bavaria, they became the role model and model for other Bavarian short film festivals such as the Regensburg Short Film Week (1994) or the international Munich short film festival Bunter Hund (1999).

Profile of the festival

The Bamberg Short Film Festival is a festival of German-language short films with competitive productions from Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Luxembourg and South Tyrol. With over 4,500 visitors, the Bamberg Short Film Festival has developed into one of the major German-speaking festivals. Feature, documentary, animation, experimental and children's films that are not older than two years and not longer than 30 minutes are shown in the competition. Over 70 competitive productions compete annually with the Bamberg audience and the three juries for the Bamberg Rider Film Prize , which is awarded in seven categories:

  • Audience award
  • Best children's film (children's audience of the program series "Short for Short")
  • Best short film (expert jury)
  • Best animation / experimental film (expert jury)
  • Documentary film award (expert jury)
  • Bamberg Regional Film Award is turning! (Regional jury)
  • Prize of the youth jury

As a prize, the first place in the audience's favor will receive the Bamberg Rider made of gold-coated chocolate. The specialist and youth jury will also award a chocolate rider as a trophy, while the winners of the documentary film award will receive a reinterpretation of the Bamberg rider as an iron sculpture. The endowment is between € 200 and € 1,000, depending on the price.

Directors such as Tom Tykwer ( Das Parfum ), Detlev Buck ( men's pension ), Andreas Dresen ( summer in front of the balcony , cloud 9 ), Peter Thorwarth ( what doesn't fit, is made to fit ) and the Oscar winner Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck ( The Lives of Others ), Pepe Danquart ( dodger ), Tyron Montgomery / Thomas Stellmach ( Quest ) and Jochen Alexander Freydank ( Toy Land ) presented their first short films in Bamberg. The artistic sponsorship of the festival was taken over by Paul Maar in 2010 and Michael Ballhaus in 2011 .

In addition to the competition blocks, the Bamberg Short Film Festival will show thematic special roles in the supporting program. Since 2004, a short and long film by a filmmaker has been presented in the Special Short / Long . In this series, Daniel Nocke, Sebastian Winkels, Veit Helmer, Neele Vollmaar, Sonja Heiss, Thomas Wendrich, Michael Dreher and Dennis Todorovic presented their cinema debuts. The special roles are often characterized by their country focus. For example, at the 22nd Festival (2012), under the title “Orient & Occident”, short films from oriental countries were confronted with works that direct an external view of the region. But international film festivals and partners of the Bamberg Short Film Festival, such as the Tampere Film Festival (Finland), the St. Petersburg Documentary Film Studio , the Brazilian Film Festival Brasil Plural , the Vienna Independent Shorts and the Portuguese short film festival Curtas Vila do Conde will also be presenting their works. In addition, the international short film program of the Secretariat of the German Bishops' Conference - moments - short films in the cinema since 2009 celebrates the German premiere at the Bamberg Short Film Festival. Since 2013, a new role has been added to the supporting program. The audience has the opportunity to choose a contribution from this role of bizarre short films and thus place it in one of the competition blocks.
