Order of Charity (Bulgaria)

The Order of Charity was established by decree of May 30, 1917 by the Bulgarian Tsar Ferdinand I and was intended to reward merits in the field of philanthropy and charitable activities. It could be awarded to women and men as well as to nationals and foreigners.

The medal is a white enamelled cross made of silver with a red enamelled border. The intertwined initials of the founder, surmounted by a crown, can be seen in the cross angles. In the center of the cross is a round, white enameled medallion in which an enamelled red cross can be seen. A red enamelled ring with the Cyrillic inscription NA CHOVEKOLYUBTSI 1916 (For Philanthropy 1916) runs around the medallion . In the reverse of the medallion, the crowned, crowned, heraldic lion with the inscription BULGARSKA PRIZNATELNOST (Bulgaria's gratitude) can be seen. The III. Class is only enamelled in the medallion, class IV only in the obverse .

Carrying method

The first and second classes were worn by gentlemen as a neck medal, with the first class additionally decorated with a breast star . The breast star represents an enlarged medal. Holder of the III. and IV. Class wore the award on a triangular ribbon on the left side of the chest.

Women decorated the award on the women's bow.

The ribbon is white with a white and mint green horizontal and a red side stripe running from the inside to the outside.
