history

House ensemble Hermann-Allmers-Straße in Schwachhausen

The row houses on Hermann-Allmers-Straße are typical buildings from the turn of the century.

The two-story, very different residential buildings Hermann-Allmers-Strasse 1 to 37 between the streets Parkallee and Hartwigstrasse were built between 1907 and 1912. The romantic residential houses, with pointed gables , gable gables , bent gables or a baroque round gable, were built in the style of the turn of the century on both sides of Hermann-Allmers-Straße. They show the characteristics from the late period of the Bremen house . They have largely continuous, closed street fronts. The overall picture is shaped by the very different facade decorations; the very different windows show a basic system, while the different bay windows emphasize the difference. The houses largely have two to three window axes, the side entrance and the side entrance to the basement . The basement is 1.30 meters below street level and can be reached from the street via an external staircase.

The southern terraced houses from No. 1 to 15, built by a building contractor, show an alternation between the main and auxiliary buildings. The houses of the second, northern construction phase, built by individual clients, increase the diversity, depending on the wishes of the residents.

The different architects are unknown. The client for numbers 1 to 15 was a building contractor; otherwise for numbers 16 to 37 there were individual builders.

Even today (2014) the houses are used almost exclusively for residential purposes.
