The housing cooperative Johannstadt eG  - WGJ for short  - is a housing cooperative that mainly houses residential properties in various central and eastern districts of Dresden , such as B. the eponymous Johannstadt , the inner Neustadt , the Pirnaische Vorstadt , the Seevorstadt-Ost and in Striesen . The cooperative has 7,941 members and with 7,717 apartments (both figures: December 31, 2017), almost half of which are inhabited by members, is one of the largest housing companies in the Saxon capital.

According to the entry in the cooperative register ( Dresden District Court , GnR 26), the object of the cooperative is a. "The promotion of its members primarily through a good, safe and socially responsible housing supply" as well as "the management, construction, acquisition, sale and maintenance of buildings in all legal forms and forms of use". In 2017, the eG had 81 employees (including 3 trainees) and total assets of EUR 259.4 million, annual sales of EUR 41.8 million and an annual profit of EUR 8.8 million.

history

The origins of the WGJ go back to the workers' housing cooperative "IG Örtliche Wirtschaft", founded in 1957, and the AWG "of state and cooperative trade", which merged on July 1, 1964 to form the AWG "Progress". In the following years the AWG "Verkehrbetriebe", 1976 the "Dresdner Wohnungsbaugenossenschaft on non-profit basis", 1979 the AWGs "Medical Academy Dresden", "Kinowerke Dresden" and "Druck und Papier" and in 1980 the AWG "Neues Dresden" were added . On July 19, 1991 the renaming of the AWG “Progress” took place in the housing cooperative Johannstadt eG .
