Wojciech Bursa

Wojciech Bursa (born April 23, 1895 in Bukowsko , † 1940 in Katyn ) was a Polish sports shooter .

Wojciech Bursa was a member of the paramilitary youth organization “Strzelec” shooting association . In 1936 he started shooting with the rapid-fire pistol at the Olympic Games in Berlin , but was eliminated in the first round.

The members of "Strzelec" were integrated into the Polish army in 1939 , and Bursa was promoted to captain . He was one of around 4,400 Polish officers who took part in the " Katyn Massacre " by members of the Soviet People's Commissariat for Internal Affairs (NKVD) between April 3 and May 11, 1940 in a forest near the village of Katyn , 20 kilometers west of Smolensk who were murdered. In 2007 he was posthumously promoted to major . Kawecki was one of ten Polish Olympians who died in Katyn.
