Bukowsko [ bu'kɔfskɔ ] is a village with 1700 inhabitants in the powiat Sanocki of the Subcarpathian Voivodeship in Poland . It is the seat of the rural community of the same name with around 5500 inhabitants.
history
The place was first mentioned as Bucowsko in 1361, the name goes back to the Polish word Buk (English: beech, the beeches ). Other forms of the name were bukowy las , ( Eng . Buchenwald ), Bukosko 1785, Ukr. Bukivs'ko 1851, and Lemkish : Butiwsko . A parish church was built in 1648. It belonged to the Sanok region until 1772 and from 1772 to 1914 to the Sanok district in the province of Galicia , Bukowsko tax district .
During the German occupation of Poland (1939-1944 / 45) Bukowsko was part of the Sanok district chief .
On April 4, 1946 , the place was attacked by troops from the Ukrainian Insurgent Army ( UPA ), which looted it and murdered many people.
Bukowsko has a district court, there is also a primary school, a manor, a post office and a brewery. Market day is weekly on Mondays.
