Sanok County was the name of a German administrative unit in occupied Poland (1939–45) during World War II . The district of Sanok had an area of ​​about 2585.6 km² and in 1941 245,704 mostly Polish, but also Ukrainian inhabitants. The district town of Sanok became the seat of the district administration . The occupation ended with the invasion of the Red Army on August 10, 1944.

Prehistory (1772 to 1918)

After the first partition of Poland from 1772 to 1918, the area around the eastern Polish city of Sanok belonged to the Sanok district in the Austrian province of Galicia .

Administrative history

At the beginning of the Second World War , German troops occupied the eastern Polish powiat Sanocki , the district town of Sanok was captured on September 10, 1939. On October 26, 1939, the powiat was attached to the Generalgouvernement under the name Sanok District , which as a unilateral act of violence was ineffective under international law. The district became part of the Krakow District in the General Government.
