Wojciech Reszko
Wojciech Reszko (born October 30, 1956 in Stettin ) is a former Polish judoka who was European champion in 1981.
Athletic career
Wojciech Reszko, who is 1.92 m tall, was Polish heavyweight champion in 1980, 1981, 1982 and 1984 and Polish champion in open class in 1982.
In 1975 he was third in the European Junior Championships. In 1976 he won silver there and silver at the Junior World Championships. At the 1978 World Student Championships, he received bronze in the heavyweight division and silver in the open class. In 1980 he started twice at the Olympic Games in Moscow. In the heavyweight division he was defeated in his first fight by the later Olympic champion Angelo Parisi from France, in the round of hope he lost to Vladimír Kocman from Czechoslovakia. In the open class he was eliminated against the Hungarian András Ozsvár . All fights went on for full time. At the world championships for students in the same year, he won bronze in the heavyweight division and won the open class.
At the European Championships in Debrecen in 1981 Reszko met the Dutchman Willy Wilhelm in the final of the open class and won the title. Three months later at the World Championships in Maastricht Reszko was eliminated from the heavyweight division against Vladimír Kocman. In the open class he defeated the Bulgarian Dimitar Saprjanow in the quarter finals and the Austrian Robert Köstenberger in the semifinals . In the final he was defeated by the Japanese Yasuhiro Yamashita . The following year Reszko finished fifth in the heavyweight division at the European Championships in Rostock. In 1983 he reached seventh place in the heavyweight division at the World Championships in Moscow. 1984 followed the seventh place at the European Championships in Liège. He missed the 1984 Olympic Games because of the Olympic boycott . In the alternative competitions held in Warsaw, he took third place in the open class.
