Origin and family

Schele was a son of the President of the Hamburg Lower Court Johann Schele (1652-1709) from his second marriage to Agneta Rumpff, daughter of Hieronymus Rumpff (1632-1675) and widow of Johann Joachim von Kampe (1658-1690).

Schele had married three times. His first marriage was in 1740 with Anna Maria Sara Schele (1717-1741), daughter of his cousin, the mayor Martin Lucas Schele (1683-1751). The second marriage Schele concluded in 1743 with Anna Catharina de Dobbeler (1714-1749), daughter of the merchant and jurate to Sankt Nikolai Diedrich de Dobbeler (1672-1727). His third wife was Lucia Wiese (1720–1771) in 1751, daughter of Mayor Hinrich Diederich Wiese . Of his children, a daughter from his second marriage, Maria Agneta Schele (1746–1830), married first the councilor Hans Jacob Faber (1740–1784) and after his death the council syndicate Nicolaus Matsen (1739–1794).

Live and act

After his school education, Schele studied jurisprudence and graduated on December 6, 1727 with a dissertation with Albert Voget at the University of Utrecht as a licentiate in both canonical and secular law.

After his studies he returned to Hamburg and settled here as a lawyer . On June 29, 1740, he was elected Secretary of the Council and on June 19, 1747, Protonotary. He held this position until his death in 1785. His successor was Franz Michael Poppe (1724–1800).
