Albert Voget (also: Vaget ; born March 17, 1695 in Bremen ; † April 23, 1771 in Utrecht ) was a German Reformed theologian.

Life

Voget had attended high school in Bremen in 1709 and completed his studies at Utrecht University in 1714. After he had held a legation preacher position in Brussels in 1716, he was given a pastor's position in Heemstede on August 15, 1717 . On July 27, 1721, he went to Middelburg as a pastor and became a high school professor of theology, which he began with the speech de natalibus ad aram Jehovae non factis (Middelburg 1723).

On December 1, 1724 he had defended the treatise Remissis examinibus et disputatione at the Utrecht University under Hieronymus Simons van Alphen and was then appointed doctor of theology hc. In 1727 the curators of the University of Groningen appointed him professor of theology. After taking up his pastoral office at the University of Groningen on November 27, 1727, he took up his professorship the following day with the speech de studio theologiae allegoricae solide et sobrie instituendo (Groningen 1727).

On June 1, 1735, the curators of the University of Utrecht appointed him professor of theology, which office he took up on September 12, 1735 with the speech De conjunctione sacerdotii et regni Christi . On October 20, 1766, he changed to the professorship of church history. He also took part in the organizational tasks of the Utrecht University and was rector of the alma mater in 1737/38 and 1756/57. Theologically he had tried to combine the theologies of Cocejus and Voetius, but remained far removed from the theological debates of his time.
