Wichmann studied from 1969 to 1972 at the Sport University in Cologne. He graduated as a certified sports teacher. In 1966 he began studying karatedō in Bad Godesberg under Günter Sick and Siggi Trapp. Two years later he was appointed to the German national team, in which he was captain from 1975 to 1980.

He took his Dan exams with various teachers:

  1. Dan: Hirokazu Kanazawa (1970)
  2. Dan: Hideo Ochi (1972)
  3. Dan: Keigo Abe / Masataka Mori / Mikio Yahara (1975)

Wichmann was often seen on television. In the program "Sport 3" of the NDR he showed a break test in which a splinter hit the guest Günter Netzer , who then spilled his water glass. In 2001 Wichmann made a brief appearance as a karate teacher on the Tatort television series . In 2015 he appeared as a candidate in the NDR quiz show Leucht des Nordens . He currently lives in Bremen and runs his own dojo there . In addition, courses are held nationwide where he teaches karate. The special features include a course in Eckernförde (extends over two weeks) and a course at the Wewelsburg (includes karate as well as zazen and go ). On June 4th, 2016 he was awarded the platinum badge of honor by the DKV for his services to the DKV and karate.

Shōtōkan Fudōshin-ryū

Easter 2002 he founded the Karatedo style Shōtōkan Fudōshin-Ryū , which has set itself the goal of reviving the original Shōtōkan - Karatedō in the DKV.

An essential aspect of the style is the precise execution of basic techniques, which are given priority over complicated combinations. In order to maintain the desired precision and to strengthen the feeling of distance even when used with a partner, in Jiyu-Kumite there is no defense in the Chudan area. The defenders are thereby additionally urged to counter an attack by evasive rather than primarily by techniques.

In the absence of enough members, the Shōtōkan Fudōshin-Ryū was assigned to the style-open karate within the German Karate Association . At the end of 2011 it was decided to join the Japan Karate Dentokai Shoto-Ha and to form a separate subgroup there.
