Wolf-Dietrich Arnold (born March 16, 1940 in Dresden ) is a German physiotherapist and orthopedist . He was a university professor in Leipzig and Jena .

Life

Wolf Dietrich Arnold completed his primary school education in Bad Elster and his Abitur in 1958 in Annaberg-Buchholz. From 1958 to 1964 Arnold studied medicine at the Karl Marx University in Leipzig . In 1964 he was awarded a Dr. med. PhD . 1964 to 1966 he completed his compulsory assistant at the forest hospital "Rudolf Elle" in Eisenberg / Thuringia. In 1970 he became a specialist in orthopedics. From 1971 he took over the sports medical care (with research) of wheelchair users in disabled sports. In 1976 the specialist certification for physiotherapy and the PhD B followed . From 1979 to 1986 Arnold was a lecturer in physiotherapy at Karl Marx University. In 1984 the Facultas Docendi followed in the field of orthopedics. Arnold was a member of the board of the Orthopedic Society of the GDR. In this function he founded a working group for spinal surgery.

From 1986 Arnold was full professor and director of the Orthopedic University Clinic in Leipzig. After the German reunification , he was dismissed for political reasons in 1992. From 1994 to 2006 he was Professor of Orthopedics at the Friedrich Schiller University in Jena . In 2003 and 2004, Arnold was chairman of the German Society for Spinal Surgery . From 2005 to 2009 he was the medical director of the Rescue Service Association of South Thuringia. He was involved as headmaster at the SRH Institute for Health Professions in Suhl. Since January 2011 he has been the interim chief physician of the orthopedic clinic at the Eisenberg Forest Hospital and provisional holder of the Jena Chair for Orthopedics at the Eisenberg Forest Hospital. In February 2011, he received the Cross of Merit on Ribbon of the Federal Republic of Germany for his services to the development of the rescue service in Saxony and Thuringia.
