Michael Witter

Michael Witter (born December 22, 1951 in Korbach ) is a German diplomat .

Life

After high school he studied from 1971 to 1977 law and was while studying 1974-1977 also tutor at the University of Marburg . After the first state examination in law , he was a research assistant at the Philipps University from 1977 to 1979 and then from 1979 to 1982 trainee lawyer at the Hanseatic Higher Regional Court . As such, he also held positions at the German-Canadian Chamber of Industry and Commerce in Edmonton and at the European Commission in Brussels . At the same time took place in 1980 his doctorate to Dr. iur.

After passing his second state examination in law in 1982, he entered the diplomatic service and, after completing his preparatory service in 1984, initially worked as a country officer in the Department for Southeast Asia in the Political Department of the Foreign Office . He was then consul at the embassy in Greece between 1986 and 1988 . After his return to Germany, Witter was a consultant in the department for general personnel matters in the central department of the Foreign Ministry.

In 1992 he was appointed permanent representative of the ambassador to Paraguay . In 1994 he returned to the central department of the Federal Foreign Office and was this time Deputy Head of General Personnel Affairs. He was then the Ambassador's permanent representative in Indonesia from 1998 to 2001 , before he was Head of the Conventional Arms Export Control Division (Division 411) in the Economic Department of the Foreign Office until 2005 . After a temporary job as a representative for foreign trade promotion and international technology policy (4-B) in 2005, he held office between 2006 and 2008 as deputy head of the economic department and at the same time as representative for foreign trade promotion and export control .

Between July 2008 and September 2011 was Witter as successor to Martin Lutz Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany in Australia and as such also in Papua New Guinea , and the Republics of Vanuatu , Nauru and the Solomon Islands accredited . In September 2011 he succeeded Ulf-Dieter Klemm as ambassador to Morocco, while the previous ambassador to Peru, Christoph Müller, became the new ambassador in Canberra . From September 2014 to 2017 he was Angelika Viet's successor as the German Ambassador to Singapore .

Witter is married and has two daughters.
