Angelika Viets

Angelika Viets (born January 9, 1954 in Stuttgart ) is a German diplomat . From 2017 to 2019 she was ambassador to Lithuania .

Life

After graduating from high school , Angelika Viets studied American , English and Romance studies from 1971 to 1977 and completed a year of study in France from 1973 to 1975 as well as a study visit to the USA with the support of a scholarship from the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) . In 1977 she completed her studies with a Magister Artium (MA) and then worked for the DAAD as a lecturer at the Gilan University in Rasht from 1977 to 1979 , before she worked for the DAAD lecturer at Tongji University in Shanghai between 1979 and 1981 was. After completing a study and teaching stay in Osaka from 1981 to 1984 , she attended the preparatory service for the higher foreign service .

After completing the career examination for the higher foreign service, it was initially used at the embassy in Japan from 1987 to 1990 and then at the headquarters of the Foreign Office . She then worked at the embassy in Spain between 1994 and 1997 and then at the embassy in the People's Republic of China , before she was deputy head of the Federal Foreign Office's training center from 2000 to 2002 . During this time she also wrote two travel reports about China and Shanghai.

After working as General Secretary of the Japanese-German Center Berlin , she was Head of Division in the Foreign Office from 2006 to 2011 .

Since August 2011, Angelika Viets has been the successor to Jörg Ranau , who in turn became the representative for export control and technology in the Foreign Office, ambassador in Singapore . She then served as the German ambassador to Kosovo from 2014 to 2017 . From there she moved to Lithuania in the same position in September 2017, where she stayed until 2019.

Viets is married and has two sons.
