Wolf Bechstein

Wolf Otto Bechstein (born August 4, 1958 in Einbeck , Lower Saxony ) is a German surgeon . His main areas of focus are immunosuppression after organ transplants , chronic rejection after organ transplants, the prevention of bleeding complications in liver transplants and the surgical treatment of neuroendocrine tumors of the gastrointestinal tract .

Life

Bechstein attended elementary school in Einbeck until 1968. Then he went to the Goethe-Gymnasium in Einbeck, where he stayed until 1974. For one year he attended Columbus Unified High School in the United States as part of the student exchange with Youth for Understanding (YFU). He then returned to the Goethe-Gymnasium, where he passed his Abitur in 1977.

Immediately after graduating from high school, Bechstein studied human medicine at the Hanover Medical School from 1977 to 1980 . From 1980 to 1981 he studied for two semesters at King's College Hospital Medical School in London , which was financially only possible thanks to the support of the German Academic Exchange Service . In 1981 he moved back to the Hannover Medical School, where he continued to study until 1983. On October 28, 1983, he passed his medical examination at the Lower Saxony State Examination Office, and on November 10 of the same year, Bechstein received his license to practice medicine from the Lower Saxony Medical Association. In 1984 he was awarded a dissertation on “Knee joint bleeding in severe haemophilia A. Results d. Northwest Germany Hemophilia Study 1979–1982 "for Dr. med. PhD .

Wolf Bechstein made his professional debut in January 1984 when he worked as a doctor for E. Kirchner in the Clinic for Anesthesiology at the Hannover Medical School . Almost a year later, in 1985, he went to the Clinic for Abdominal and Transplant Surgery at the Hannover Medical School to see R. Pichlmayr.

In August 1988, Bechstein continued his training as a specialist in surgery at the Surgical Clinic and Polyclinic of the Rudolf Virchow University Hospital at the Free University of Berlin (today the Charité Clinic for General, Visceral and Transplant Surgery , Virchow Clinic Campus, Director Peter Neuhaus ). In 1990, Bechstein went to the University of Wisconsin in the USA to work with HW Sollinger. The German Research Foundation helped him to do this research stay .

In April 1992 Bechstein became a senior physician and in November the same year he became a surgeon at the Berlin Medical Association. In 1993 he was promoted to senior physician there, and a year later he received his habilitation at the Free University of Berlin. From mid-1998 he became senior physician at the clinic, where he mostly worked in the field of visceral surgery . On September 4, 2000 he was appointed director of the surgical university clinic of the Knappschaftskrankenhaus Bochum-Langendreer . Wolf Bechstein was appointed Professor of the Medical Faculty of the Humboldt University in Berlin on November 14, 2000.

Since August 1, 2002, Wolf Otto Bechstein has been Director of the Clinic for General and Vascular Surgery at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main .

Wolf Bechstein has been married to Bojana Bechstein since 1985. The marriage resulted in two daughters.
