Wolf Dietrich (Romanist)

Wolf Dietrich (born October 9, 1940 in Mülheim an der Ruhr ) is a German linguist with a focus on the Romance languages but also the languages ​​of the indigenous peoples of America. He was a university professor, most recently at the University of Münster .

Live and act

Wolf Dietrich graduated from high school in Quakenbrück in 1961 . This was followed by studies at the Universities of Münster and Munich from 1961 to 1962, then in Montpellier from 1962 to 1963 and finally at the University of Tübingen from 1963 to 1967. In Tübingen he passed his 1st state examination in French and Latin and was there in 1971 with a dissertation supervised by Eugenio Coseriu as "doctor philosophiae". From 1971 to 1973 he worked as a research assistant at the University of Tübingen.

This was later followed by a habilitation and a visiting professorship at the University of Navarra in Pamplona . After his stay in Spain , he was appointed full professor of Romance philology . In the 1973/74 winter semester, Dietrich was appointed to the chair for Romance Linguistics at the University of Münster. His academic interests include Romance linguistics, linguistics of the indigenous languages ​​of the South American lowlands , linguistics of the Tupi-Guaraní languages , as well as general grammar, word formation, syntax , semantics , historical-comparative linguistics and variety linguistics .
