Wolf Haenisch

Wolf Friedrich Konrad Haenisch (born August 6, 1908 in Kuling, China, † February 3, 1978 in Marburg ) was a German librarian and Japanologist .

Life

Haenisch was born in 1908 as the son of the sinologist Erich Haenisch . He attended the high school in Salzwedel , the Berlin High School in the Gray Monastery and the Thomas School in Leipzig . He passed his Abitur in 1927. He then studied Japanese Studies , History , Sanskrit and Sinology at the Universities of Leipzig, Vienna, Berlin and Kyoto. André Wedemeyer was one of his teachers . He did his doctorate in Berlin with Clemens Scharschmidt and Otto Franke as Dr. phil. In 1936 he became a consultant for Japanese Studies and Sinology at the Prussian State Library in Berlin . In 1946 he became director of the Public Scientific Library in Berlin. From 1950 to 1974 he was director of the University Library in Marburg . Since 1959 he was also honorary professor for Japanese studies at the Philipps University of Marburg .
