Wolfgang Bankl
Wolfgang Bankl (* 1960 in Vienna ) is an Austrian opera singer with a bass and bass-baritone voice .
Life
Wolfgang Bankl grew up in Tribuswinkel and received violin training at the music school in Baden near Vienna. From 1984 to 1989 he studied singing with Dominique Weber, song and oratorio with David Lutz and opera with Waldemar Kmentt at the Vienna Conservatory .
At the beginning of his career he was engaged at the Vienna Chamber Opera and from 1989 to 1993 at the Kiel Opera House . Since 1993 he has been a member of the ensemble of the Vienna State Opera , where he has performed as Papageno in the Magic Flute , as Baron Ochs auf Lerchenau in Rosenkavalier , as Count Waldner in Arabella , as Truffaldin in Ariadne auf Naxos , as Mr. Flint in Billy Budd , as Leporello in Don Giovanni , as Bartolo in the Barber of Seville , as Figaro in the Marriage of Figaro , as Klingsor in Parsifal and as Alcindoro in La Bohème . In December 2018 he sang the roles of demagogue and chief forester in the world premiere of the opera Die Weiden by Johannes Maria Staud .
In 2000 he founded the chamber music festival giro d'arte together with the pianist and conductor Norbert Pfafflmeyer, the writer Harald Kollegger and the clay-maker pain helmet von Solchgemut , which has taken place every summer since then. The journey to the event locations takes place by bike, the program is dedicated to Bach and Schubert as well as contemporary music.
Since 2007 he has been a lecturer at the Allegro Vivo chamber music festival .
Awards
In April 2013 he was awarded the title of Austrian Chamber Singer .
