Wolfgang Bartsch

Wolfgang Bartsch (born November 4, 1926 in Dresden ; † May 19, 2014 in Potsdam ) was a German film director who has achieved importance in the field of documentary film .

Life

Bartsch first completed an apprenticeship as a photo laboratory technician . From 1947 to 1950 he worked as a trainee at DEFA Production Saxony in Dresden and began working as a director in the DEFA studio for documentary films in 1951. Here he devoted himself to documentaries, short documentaries and educational films . One of his employees in 1952 was Bärbl Bergmann , who became Bartsch's assistant director and, in 1954, her first major task was to complete the documentary film Young Pioneers he had started building a cooking area . Bartsch had a creative collaboration with cameraman Helmut Bergmann on several documentary films.

From 1965 to 1969, Bartsch completed an external degree in directing at the German Academy for Film Art in Potsdam - Babelsberg . From 1967 to 1974 Bartsch was a guest lecturer at the HFF in the field of directing. His only feature film direction dates back to 1961: Kisses and the General .

Awards

Bartsch received on June 11, 1976 as part of the film collective of the documentary Wilhelm Pieck - Son of the People, the Heinrich Greif Prize 1st class.

On October 1, 1979, he was honored as one of six directors of the DEFA studios for documentary films with the National Prize for Art and Culture, Second Class.
