Beier became known for his primarily small-format pictures, which were most often made with pen or charcoal. Coastal landscapes and cityscapes are favored motifs. Initially Expressionist drawings have been replaced by more detailed, decomposed image structures since the late 1970s. His woodcuts overpainted with opaque paint and his finely structured color etchings are particularly noteworthy . Beier presented his works in numerous exhibitions.
