Wolfgang Berner

Wolfgang Berner (* 1944 in Vienna ) is an Austrian psychiatrist and psychoanalyst .

From 1995 to April 2010, Berner was Professor and Director of the Institute for Sexual Research and Forensic Psychiatry at the University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf (UKE). Before that, the psychiatrist was the therapeutic director of a special prison for sex offenders in Vienna. The focus of his work is the area of ​​sexual delinquency and pedophilia as well as group therapy for pedosexual men. Berner is also a court expert for sex offenders.

From 1984 to 1993, Berner was chairman of the Vienna Psychoanalytical Association , and in 1993 he gave the traditional Sigmund Freud lecture .

Wolfgang Berner is married and has three children. He is the brother of the film director Dieter Berner .
