Wolfgang Egger

Wolfgang Josef Egger (born February 13, 1963 in Oberstdorf ) is a German car designer . He is currently head of design at the Chinese automobile manufacturer BYD .

Egger was born on February 13, 1963 in Oberstdorf im Allgäu. He obtained his Abitur in Sonthofen . Then he studied design at the International College of Art and Science in Milan , Italy. In 1989 he completed his studies as an industrial designer . Egger began his professional career in 1989 in the design department at Alfa Romeo . In 1993 he became chief designer of Alfa Romeo. In 1998 Egger became chief designer at Seat . There he was able to implement his personal style. So he was z. B. responsible for the model projects Seat Ibiza , Seat Cordoba and Seat Altea .

In 2001 Egger became Head of Design at Lancia . In the same year, however, he returned to Alfa Romeo as chief designer. Among the Alfa Romeo cars developed under his leadership were the Alfa Romeo Nuvola , 156 , 166 , 147 and 8C Competizione .

In April 2007 Egger followed Walter Maria de Silva , who had switched to VW in February, in the position of Head of Design at the Audi Group. He was thus responsible for the Audi and Lamborghini brands . Among other things, in 2010 he headed the development of the Audi quattro Concept show car and developed the first Audi e-tron Concept. From February 1, 2012, he also took over the operational design of the Audi brand. He left Audi on February 1, 2014.

At the end of 2016, Egger took up the post of chief designer at the Chinese automobile manufacturer BYD . The first vehicle he designed there was the BYD Song Max .

Egger is married and has two children.
