Wolfgang Günther (translator)

Wolfgang Günther (born April 29, 1940 - August 14, 1998 ) was a German translator . He translated from French , Spanish and Portuguese .

Life

The translator, who suffered from progressive muscle weakness throughout his life and was forced to use a wheelchair at an early age, grew up in Plessa in southern Brandenburg and later lived in Elsterwerda .

In 1990 Günther (ex aequo with Fabienne Blaise) received the translator's prize worth 10,000 euros to promote German-French relations (since 2005: Raymond Aron Prize ) from the DVA Foundation for his work on Marcel Marnat's Maurice Ravel .

In 1998 he died of an operation.
