Wolfgang Honko (born October 2, 1948 in Döbern ) is a former German soccer player who later also worked as an amateur coach. During his career, Honko played for BSG Energie Cottbus and ASG Vorwärts Cottbus in the second-rate GDR league .

Life

Wolfgang Honko went through the junior teams of his home club BSG Chemie Döbern and came to BSG activist Schwarze Pump in 1965 . There he was used at least in the 1966/67 season in the third-rate district league Cottbus and at the end of the season he made it to the GDR league. After another half a season with the BSG activist, Honko moved to league competitor BSG Energie Cottbus in January 1968 and was not used there for the rest of the season. In the 1968/69 season Honko completed the two games against TSG Wismar and Hansa Rostock , in the former he was in the starting line-up, in the latter he was substituted on in the 72nd minute. However, since Honko could not prevail against the then set striker Peter Effenberger and the substitute attackers Ullrich Koinzer and Matthias Jahn , Wolfgang Honko left the club in November 1968 and joined the ASG Vorwärts Cottbus .

In the army sports community Honko came in the further course of the 1968/69 season five times to use without him succeeding in scoring. Honko scored his first goal for the club during the 1969/70 season in April 1970 in a 1-1 draw against Dynamo Schwerin . Honko played at ASG Vorwärts Cottbus until 1974 and scored seven goals in 68 games. After the 1973/74 season, the club was dissolved. Honko then played for a year with BSG Lokomotive Cottbus , which had been promoted to the GDR league in the previous season. With only three wins and 14 defeats, Lokomotiv Cottbus occupied the penultimate place and was relegated to the district league. After three years without a club, Wolfgang Honko went to SG Dynamo Cottbus in the third-class district league Cottbus in 1978 . From the following year Honko also worked there as a youth trainer.

After the end of his career, Honko initially withdrew from the football business. From 2003 to 2004 he coached the first team of VfB Cottbus 97 in the district class north. After that he was coach of the second team of VfB Cottbus for three years and from 2008 to 2016 he coached the old men’s team.
