Wolfgang Kleinwächter (* 1947 in Zwickau ) is a German communication scientist and internet governance expert. He is a member of ICANN and IGF, among others .

Since 1998 he has been Professor of International Communication Policy and Regulation at the Department for Media and Information Sciences at Aarhus University .

In July 2012 he was honored by the Association of German Internet Service Providers eco for his efforts in his field. In addition, he is the editor of the "MIND Discussion Paper Series" series on global Internet governance issues by the Berlin think tank Internet & Gesellschaft Collaboratory . In November 2013 he was appointed to the board of ICANN.

Kleinwächter studied communication, international law and international relations at the University of Leipzig , where he received his Dr. rer. pole. received his doctorate. He has taught at the School of International Services at American University in Washington DC and at the Faculty of Journalism at Lomonosov University in Moscow. He is one of the initiators of the Charter of Fundamental Digital Rights of the European Union , which was published at the end of November 2016.
