Wolfgang Kolbe (born March 24, 1929 in Putzar near Anklam in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania ; † March 18, 2000 in Wuppertal ) was a German entomologist specializing in beetles .

Live and act

After graduating from high school in Pasewalk in 1948 , Kolbe studied biology and chemistry at the Berlin-East University of Education. In 1956 he went to Sprockhövel and continued his studies at the Pedagogical Academy in Wuppertal . After working as a teacher, he received a teaching position for biology at the Wuppertal University of Education in 1961 , later supplemented by a teaching position at the Siegerland University of Education . At the same time, he began studying biology at the University of Cologne in the summer of 1961 , which he completed with a doctorate in 1965 .

In January 1969, Kolbe took over the management of the Natural Science and City History Museum in Wuppertal, which was renamed the Fuhlrott Museum in 1973 - after the discoverer of the Neanderthal man . He headed this museum for 25 years until his retirement in 1994. During this time he expanded the museum, set up an ecological collection of the beetles of North Rhine-Westphalia there with the working group of Rhenish coleopterologists and carried out ecological research - especially the beetle fauna - of the beetles Staatsforstes Burgholz , in which there is a nature trail named after him.
