Wolfgang Wilhelm Koschel (born October 30, 1938 in Berlin ) is a German aerospace engineer and former director of the Institute for Space Propulsion of the German Aerospace Center (DLR).

Life

Koschel completed his studies in flight technology at the Technical University of Berlin from 1957 with distinction. He was initially a research assistant at the Institute for Aerospace Engines at the TU Berlin and a visiting researcher at Société Nationale d'Etudes et de Constructions de Moteurs d'Aviation in France. In 1970 he became a Dr.-Ing. At the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at the TU Berlin with a thesis on the heat transfer of impact rays. PhD . He was a senior engineer at the Institute for Jet Propulsion and Turbo Machinery at RWTH Aachen University . In 1981 he qualified as a professor at RWTH Aachen University with a thesis on methods of thermodynamic function control and damage analysis of aircraft engines with the help of flight data recording systems and was appointed professor for the operational behavior of jet propulsion systems at RWTH Aachen University.

In 1995 Koschel was released from RWTH Aachen University and has since worked as Institute Director Space Propulsion at DLR in Hardthausen.
