Wolfgang Leitner

Wolfgang Leitner (born March 27, 1953 in Graz ) is an Austrian manager and entrepreneur .

Youth, Education and Early Career

Wolfgang Leitner was born in 1953 as the son of a locksmith and studied chemistry at the Karl-Franzens-Universität Graz . After completing his studies, he worked in research from 1978 to 1981 for Vianova , an Austrian subsidiary of Hoechst AG . From 1981 to 1985 he worked as a management consultant at McKinsey & Company in Munich . In 1986 he founded the pharmaceutical company Genericon together with his fellow student, who later became Minister of Economics Martin Bartenstein . Its Hungarian subsidiary Pharmavit achieved great success with effervescent tablets and generics and was bought in 1995 by the US pharmaceutical company Bristol-Myers Squibb for 110 million dollars.

Career at Andritz AG

At the same time, Leitner had been CFO of Andritz AG from 1987 and CEO from 1994 . His areas of responsibility include central group functions such as human resources, controlling and accounting, corporate communications and investor relations, internal auditing, IT and business process management. When Andritz AG was sold in 1999, Leitner acquired a 26 percent stake, 72 percent of the shares are in free float, two percent are held by the management.

According to the Wirtschaftsblatt dated May 23, 2014, Leitner has estimated private assets of 2.1 billion euros. In 2014, the business magazine trend lists Wolfgang Leitner among the richest Austrians in 21st place, with an estimated fortune of 1.36 billion euros. On the list the world's billionaires of the Forbes Magazine ranked Leitner in 2015 at No. 1190 with an estimated fortune of 1.6 billion US dollars. He is 6th on the list of the richest Austrians .
